Founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, The Dalmore Distillery in Alness, Scotland, has undergone ownership changes, notably by the Mackenzie family in the 1880s and later by Whyte & Mackay in 1960. The iconic stag's head emblem on Dalmore bottles stems from a royal gesture after Colin Mackenzie saved the King of England during a hunting expedition in 1867. Despite facing bankruptcy in the late 19th century, The Dalmore recovered under new management.
In recent decades, The Dalmore has gained renown for its premium single malt whiskies, often experimenting with diverse cask types, including wine and sherry casks. Notable expressions include The Dalmore 12-Year-Old, The Dalmore 15-Year-Old, and The Dalmore Cigar Malt. The distillery set a record in 2011 when a bottle of The Dalmore 62-Year-Old became one of the most expensive whiskies sold at auction.
Today, The Dalmore, part of the Whyte & Mackay portfolio, continues to produce sought-after whiskies, maintaining a reputation for quality and innovation in the world of Scotch whisky.
