Bowmore

There are claims that Bowmore’s distillery, nestled on the shores of Loch Indaal on the Isle of Islay, started operation in 1779, but there’s no evidence of whisky being made until a certain John Simpson took out a licence in 1816. It wouldn’t be until 1837 when the Glasgow blending firm, Wm & Jas. Mutter took over that the distillery began to gain traction and reputation.

Throughout its storied history, Bowmore has witnessed periods of transformation and modernisation while steadfastly preserving its time-honoured methods of whisky production. The distillery's commitment to tradition is evident in its use of the iconic pagoda roof kiln for malting barley and its reliance on water from the peat-rich River Laggan, imbuing its whiskies with a distinctive flavour profile.

In 2014, the distillery, along with fellow Islay distillery Laphroaig, was bought by Beam Suntory. And to this day, Bowmore whiskies are celebrated for their harmonious blend of peat smoke, maritime influence, and fruity sweetness, reflecting the unique terroir of Islay. This distinctive character has earned Bowmore a legion of devoted fans worldwide and a multitude of awards for its core range and limited edition releases.
