This 1996 Highland single malt from The Artful Dodger is understood to come from Clynelish, a distillery prized for its distinctive waxy texture and fresh coastal character. Matured for 25 years in a single bourbon hogshead, cask #5, it was bottled in 2021 at a natural strength of 49.1% ABV, with just 480 half-litre bottles produced. The long ageing has added depth and polish without obscuring the spirit’s unmistakable identity. Crème brûlée, toffee apple and vanilla custard sit alongside waxed lemon peel, salted chocolate and honeyed malt, with gentle oak spice and a subtle maritime lift running through the palate. Refined, textured and beautifully composed, it’s a rare older Highland malt that balances mature cask character with the bright, waxy energy that makes Clynelish so sought after.
