Liquid Legacies: All About The Clase Azul Gold Edition That’s Causing Quite A Stir

Are you ready to serve up some drama with your drink? Trust us, this iconic tequila is part spirit, part spectacle and 100% unforgettable.

We say this a lot (admittedly), but honestly? This is no average bottle of tequila.

If we could think of a tequila that says “after-dark appeal”, the Clase Azul Gold Edition springs to mind. It’s the guest who arrives fashionably late, manages to steal the spotlight, then somehow ends up dancing in the booth and in cahoots with the DJ.

Say hola to Clase Azul Gold Edition. An uber-premium tequila that’s here to disrupt everything you thought you knew about agave-based luxury.

You only need one good look at it to tell that this is not some mystery bottle from your university days. It’s sleek, slightly sultry and seriously dressed to kill… but in bottle form. Anyone care for a golden hour moment that somehow stretches to 3am?

Sounds like a stretch, but all we’re saying is: if there were ever a tequila to propose with, this might be it.

The (slightly) painful news? It’s released in limited quantities. The good news? If you’re quick enough, you’ll be able to score one for yourself. Here’s the inside scoop on all you need to know about the tequila of the moment.

Where spirit meets spirit: a little backstory on its origins

Before it became the icon that left collectors in frenzy-mode, Clase Azul was born in 1997 with a dream to share Mexican culture through an elevated lens. From humble soil, you’ll now find bottles of this in most high-end bars. With Mazamitla roots, founding father Arturo Lomeli had a vision to truly honour heritage. Think of it as sharing grandma’s recipes, but in liquid-gold form.

So, where did the name “Clase Azul” come from? Azul, meaning blue, symbolises trust, wisdom and Mexico’s blue weber agave that plays a key role in tequila production. Mystery solved.

A blend so good, it’s practically showing off

The Clase Azul Gold Edition is far from your run-of-the-mill reposado. Sure, it’s a joven, but not quite as you know it. Think a masterful blend of Plata tequila that’s bright, youthful and packed with a citrusy attitude. The Reposado? Aged gracefully in fancy French oak barrels. The end game? Smooth, rounded, Barry White-like results (but in liquid form, of course).

The real showstopper? Extra añejo, aged spectacularly for eight years in both bourbon and sherry casks. Talk about double trouble. It’s kind of like a tuxedo-wearing flamenco dancer: rich, dramatic and a with plenty of flair.

Three’s a crowd? Not when they taste this good together.

Let’s talk about the decanter: fashionably loud…

One thing’s for sure – the Clase Azul Gold Edition bottle is a certified looker. Equally modern and regal, it has a black ceramic base and a clear upper half that glows like honey in candlelight. For extra points on the aesthetic factor, the two ribbons at the base of the decanter are hand pained and 24-karat gold (you read that right).

Subtle? We think not.

More on the decanters (how they’re made)

Anyone care for some drinkable art?

Each Clase Azul decanter takes around two weeks to make. We promise you, it’s not because someone’s slacking. In fact, that’s far from the truth.

In case you were wondering (we bet you were), each decanter is handcrafted from ceramic vessels and decorated to perfection. Around 350 master artisans – mostly women – in the tiny town of Santa María Canchesdá, Mexico dedicate themselves to every detail, using age-old Mazahua techniques. And better yet, no two are the same. That means no mass production, no shortcuts. Just lots of love poured into each bottle, a meticulous eye for detail and probably some swooning over the gold leaf. A job well done, in our opinion.

The best part? Through their workshop, Tradición Mazahua, Clase Azul goes beyond good taste. They support local women with childcare, education, transport and meals. It’s tequila with heart, soul and a seriously good clink.

Is it a bottle? Is it an object d’art? Doesn’t matter. We bet it’s already on your wish list.

Now, for the taste test: gold on the tongue

Imagine drinking the tequila equivalent of a Miami sunset: warm, smooth, slightly mysterious and most importantly, best enjoyed slowly.

On the nose? It energetically greets you with a bouquet of toasted oak, green apple, agave syrup and a hint of citrus. Basically, it’s a Mexican orchard with great taste in cologne.

The palate is where it draws you in. Think notes of figs, green olives and almonds. And for a plot twist? A whisper of dark-chocolate.

As for the finish? It’s long, citrusy and a bit peppery.

Consider this latest edition as smooth as your favourite pair of silk pyjamas (and twice as indulgent).

Honouring the gods of agave: how to drink Clase Azul Gold Edition

Put down the salt and lime. We can do better. This isn’t a bottle for your cocktail base. It’s a moment. One to be sipped, swirled and admired.

So, how is it best served? We reckon neat, in a proper glass or a cut-crystal tumbler if you’re feeling super fancy.

In our opinion, truffle almonds and seared scallops make the best food pairings. And if you want to go all swanky – chocolate truffles adorned with gold dust. You’re welcome.

Rare, radiant and highly sought-after: why the Gold Edition is a liquid legacy

Pre-warning: the FOMO is real.

Only 6,000 bottles are released globally. Meaning? You can either be one of the chosen ones or left admiring from afar. We know which we prefer.

With plenty already snapped up by collectors and connoisseurs alike, we really hate to break it to you, but once it’s gone, it’s really gone. Well, at least until the next rumour mill of a re-release.

All in all, think vaults, not supermarkets.

Wrapping things up: go for gold

Clase Azul Gold Edition isn’t just tequila, it’s theatre in a bottle. With heritage in every drop and artistry in every curve, it’s bold, beautiful and unapologetically luxurious. Whether you drink it, display it, or both, just know you’re holding a golden piece of Mexico’s soul.
