Château Lafite Rothschild sits at the northern edge of Pauillac and has long been prized for elegance and fragrance rather than sheer force. The 1991 vintage followed severe spring frost and produced a very small crop, with the final blend unusually led by Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon. That gives this Lafite a softer, more supple shape than many years, while its long evolution in magnum has helped preserve delicacy and freshness. Blackcurrant and ripe red fruit sit alongside tobacco, cedar, vanilla and gentle spice, with floral and lightly earthy notes developing in the glass. The tannins are now fine and settled, carrying a fragrant, understated finish. Mature, graceful and historically fascinating, it's a Lafite that speaks through finesse, particularly alongside roast lamb, beef or simply a quiet evening with time to let it unfold.
