Finca Dofí is one of Álvaro Palacios’s defining Priorat wines, drawn from a steep estate vineyard near Gratallops where old vines grow in the region’s fractured llicorella slate. The 2011 is made from 95% Garnacha with 5% Syrah, capturing the warmth of the vintage while preserving the freshness that separates Palacios’s wines from heavier expressions of the region. Wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant are joined by violet, fennel, pepper and dried Mediterranean herbs, with a pronounced mineral character running beneath the fruit. The palate is rich and silky, though firm tannins and lively acidity give it impressive definition. Powerful without losing elegance, it shows Garnacha at its most perfumed and finely structured. Serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, Iberian pork or slow-cooked dishes scented with rosemary.
