Pierre Gonon is one of Saint-Joseph’s defining producers, known for traditional farming and wines that express the northern Rhône with unusual clarity. Les Oliviers Blanc comes from a single site near Mauves, in the historic southern part of the appellation, where granite and alluvial soils help give the wine both breadth and mineral tension. The 2018 blends around 80% Marsanne with 20% Roussanne and was barrel fermented, then matured almost entirely in used oak, with just one new demi-muid in the cellar. Ripe pear, quince and yellow plum sit alongside white flowers, beeswax, almond and gentle spice, with a stony, savoury note running through the finish. Richer than a simple fresh white, yet held together by grip and freshness, it has the structure to develop beautifully in bottle. Complex, distinctive and deeply gastronomic, it's a natural match for roast chicken, veal or richer fish.
