The Art of Gifting: Discover Seventy One Gin

A luxury gin gift with meaning

In an already crowded market place, finding a luxury gin gift that feels truly special can be difficult. The most memorable bottles combine craftsmanship, striking design and a story worth sharing – Seventy One Gin offers all three.

Created by renowned Turkish fashion photographer Mert Alas, this remarkable spirit takes inspiration from the world of haute perfumery. Each botanical is distilled separately and blended with a perfumer’s precision before the gin is rested in oak casks for 71 nights – an unusual step that brings remarkable smoothness and depth.

Presented to resemble an iconic perfume bottle, Seventy One Gin is a striking gift for Mother’s Day, weddings or milestone celebrations, offering something far more distinctive than an ordinary bottle of gin.

A gin inspired by perfumery

Unlike traditional gins, where botanicals are distilled together, Seventy One takes a far more refined approach. Each botanical is distilled individually before being blended together in precise proportions – much like the composition of a fine perfume.

At the heart of the spirit is the rare ‘Queen of the Night’ cactus flower – an extraordinary bloom that appears only once a year and only after dark. Its delicate character is supported by rose petals, grapefruit peel and classic gin botanicals, creating a layered and beautifully balanced profile.

The result is a gin that feels bold, complex and intriguingly different.

An unconventional approach

Perhaps the most unusual element of Seventy One is what happens after distillation.

Traditionally, gin goes straight from still to bottle. Ageing in wood is typically associated with spirits such as whisky, rum and brandy. But Mert Alas approached this gin with the same creative mindset that defines his work behind the camera – questioning conventions and exploring new possibilities.

Seventy One is rested in oak casks for 71 nights, allowing the botanicals to soften and develop new layers of flavour.

As Mert explains:

“We wanted to make a beautiful gin. We added more layers but it was not smooth enough so we used wood. Something magical happens when 71 enters the cask. It becomes rounder, it becomes smooth, it becomes this beautiful golden colour.”

That time in wood gives the spirit its luminous golden hue and remarkable softness, with gentle notes of vanilla and subtle spice complementing the botanicals.

Designed to be seen

Seventy One Gin is as visually striking as it is flavourful. The bottle was designed to resemble a piece of crystal perfume glassware – a deliberate nod to the world of fragrance that inspired its creation. Clean lines, weighty glass and elegant detailing give it the presence of an objet d’art rather than simply another bottle on the shelf.

Placed on a table or bar, it quickly becomes a conversation piece. And that is exactly why it makes such a compelling gift.

A gin gift that feels different

With its elegant presentation and distinctive character, Seventy One Gin makes a wonderful gift – whether for Mother’s Day, a wedding celebration, or a milestone birthday.

For those who appreciate beautiful design as much as exceptional spirits, it offers something genuinely different: a bottle that looks extraordinary and tastes just as impressive.

Tasting notes

Seventy One Gin reveals its character gradually, with layers of aroma and flavour shaped by both its unusual botanical composition and its time spent resting in oak.

Nose

Soft floral notes lead the way, with rose petals and delicate citrus from grapefruit peel. There is also a gentle warmth from the oak, bringing subtle hints of vanilla and light spice.

Palate

Smooth and rounded, with bright botanicals balanced by a gentle richness from the cask. The rare ‘Queen of the Night’ cactus flower adds a delicate floral lift, while the oak introduces depth and softness rarely found in gin.

Finish

Long, elegant and warming, with lingering citrus oils and subtle spice.

How to drink

While Seventy One shines in a Martini – particularly the brand’s signature Golden Martini – its texture and complexity also make it enjoyable served neat or over ice – without being disguised by a tonic, the myriad flavours can unfold in isolation.

Why Hackstons selected Seventy One Gin

At Hackstons, we are always looking for spirits with a story that brings something genuinely different to the glass.

As our Buyer at Hackstons explains: “Seventy One immediately stood out for two reasons. First, the remarkable attention to detail in its production – from individually distilling each botanical to blending them with the precision of a perfumer. Second, the bold decision to rest the gin in oak casks for 71 nights, something rarely seen in traditional gin-making. The result is a spirit with unusual depth, softness and character.”

Why luxury spirits make memorable gifts

Luxury spirits offer something many gifts cannot: the chance to create a shared experience.

Whether opened to celebrate a wedding, enjoyed on a special evening or saved for a future anniversary, a carefully chosen bottle carries meaning beyond the moment it is given.

Beautifully presented spirits such as Seventy One Gin also become part of the occasion itself – displayed on a table, admired by guests and remembered long after the bottle is finished.

That combination of craftsmanship, design and enjoyment makes premium spirits a particularly thoughtful gift. For more inspiration, take a look at our blog, The Ultimate Whisky Gift Guide.

FAQs: A guide to gifting spirits

What makes gin a good gift?

Gin makes an excellent gift because it offers both versatility and personality. A beautifully crafted bottle can be enjoyed in cocktails, shared with friends or appreciated slowly over time. Premium gins such as Seventy One also have strong visual appeal, making them a memorable present.

Is a premium gin suitable for special occasions?

Yes. Luxury spirits are often chosen to mark meaningful occasions such as birthdays, weddings or anniversaries. A distinctive bottle like Seventy One Gin – with its elegant design and unusual cask-resting process – feels far more special than an everyday bottle.

What spirits make good wedding gifts?

Weddings celebrate special moments that people remember for years, so a bottle with character and craftsmanship is a thoughtful choice. Old & rare whisky, aged rum or a distinctive gin can make wonderful wedding gifts, particularly when it is something the couple can open together in the future.

What should I look for when buying a gin as a gift?

Look for something with a story behind it. Unique botanicals, unusual production methods or a beautifully designed bottle can all elevate the experience. Seventy One Gin stands out for exactly these reasons – from its individually distilled botanicals to its rare 71-night rest in oak casks.
