A Toast to Mum: The Hackstons Mother’s Day Gift Guide

We know it’s easier said than done, but step away from the scented candle. Skip the box of chocolates and petrol station flowers.

Mother’s Day 2025 is on the 30th March this year. So, really, this is the one time of year we can officially celebrate the amazing women who spent a lifetime (or are about to spend a lifetime) praising our achievements and, in some instances, putting up with our nonsense. Sure, breakfast in bed, beautiful flowers and a heartfelt card are well and good, but truth be told, wouldn’t it be nicer to get her a Mother’s Day gift that’s extra special (hint, hint: whisky or wine)?

But before we dive into our top picks, let’s take a quick look at how Mother’s Day came about.

A brief history of Mother’s Day (because we love a fun fact)

We know what some of you are thinking, but honestly, truly in the UK, Mother’s Day isn’t just another marketing ploy for florists and chocolatiers (although they can benefit). In fact, it dates back to the 16th Century. Once a religious tradition referred to as “Mothering Day” where people go to their “mother church”, over time, it naturally evolved into a day of honouring mothers themselves. By the 20th century, it had become the gift giving affair we now know it as today.

So, now that you know more about its history, let’s get into the nitty gritty, shall we?

Choose Mother’s Day tipples (brownie points, included)

When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, there’s one rule to follow: Get her something she actually wants (and no, another scented candle doesn’t count). That’s where we come in. We’ve done the hard work for you—sipping, swirling, and selecting the finest bottles to make this Mother’s Day truly special. Whether she’s a whisky lover, a Champagne enthusiast, or someone who appreciates a perfectly poured glass of wine, we’ve got just the thing to impress. So, without further ado, here are our top drink recommendations guaranteed to make you the favourite this year.
