A Toast to Dad: Our Father’s Day Gifting Guide

Has Father’s Day only just crossed your mind? Don’t worry, we’re not here to judge. But we are here to help with a perfectly-timed Father’s Day gifting guide.

This is your official reminder that dad deserves more than a pair of cotton socks (no matter how high the thread count). And let’s be real, cards are of course important, but everyone loves to unwrap a gift, right?

Luckily, we’ve got your back. We also happen to have the whisky he’s perhaps had his eye on for ages. And plenty of it.

Whether he’s a dram dabbler or a seasoned single malt savant, we’ve got the perfect ideas to help you raise a glass to him this Father’s Day.

Let’s make it count this year. Not just for dad, but for grandad, stepdad, your whisky-loving uncle, and any other father figure who deserves a little appreciation.

A brief Father’s Day History lesson (yep, it’s a thing)

The idea actually made its way over from the US in the early 20th century, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd decided her father deserved the same recognition Mother’s Day gave to mums. Makes sense, right? The sentiment caught on, and before long, Father’s Day went global, spreading faster than a dad joke at a family BBQ.

The UK didn’t make it an official celebration until 1972, but now we celebrate it around the country on the third Sunday of June every year.

Why whisky makes an ideal Father’s Day gift

Without sounding biased, a bottle of luxury whisky is more than a drink. It’s an experience. A journey in a glass. A liquid hug. You get the picture.

It’s steeped in tradition, craftsmanship, and that “I’m a man of refined taste” energy that, let’s face it: every dad secretly loves to project. And who can blame him?

There’s a flavour profile for every kind of dad, whether he leans sweet and smoky or peaty and punchy. Bonus: it doesn’t need charging or complicated wrapping. That alone is a win in our book.

For the dad who says “I don’t want anything” (but secretly does)

Even if he really means it, it couldn’t hurt to treat him anyway. And if we’re being honest, we’ve seen that look. You know the one. When he says he doesn’t want anything but lights up when you actually get it right.

A well-chosen bottle of whisky says, “I appreciate you, and I know what you love.” Ideal for those who still enjoy a bit of indulgence when it counts.

If we had to choose: our top 4 whiskies for Father’s Day gifting

Ready to raise a glass and earn favourite-child status? Look no further.

The grandad of whiskies: Glenfarclas 30-Year-Old Single Malt

Looking to go all out this Father’s Day? This is the whisky that could probably tell you a story (or three) if it could talk. Distilled three generations back, think of this indulgent spirit as a standing ovation, but in  the form of liquid gold. Think fruitcake, marzipan, and festive spice on the nose, followed by silky waves of sweet fruit; and a cheeky hit of ginger chocolate to finish (for a pleasant surprise).

£750

Matured (exclusively) in oloroso sherry casks, the Glenfarclas 30-Year-Old is nothing if not traditional. Crafted by one of the last distilleries to use direct-fired stills (you read correctly) and one that has been owned by the same family for the last five generations, we have five generations of father-to-son whisky wisdom to enjoy with every decadent sip.

Side note: It comes with a beautiful, complimentary crystal decanter; because Dad deserves to store his whisky in style, right?

The smooth operator: Dalmore 15 Year Old Highland Single Malt

Sophisticated. Smooth. Slightly smug (in the best of ways, of course), the Dalmore 15 Year Old comes with some serious swagger. It’s a Highland masterpiece matured in not just one, but three types of sherry cask (we’re talking Apostoles, Amoroso and Matusalem Oloroso, if you’d like to sound like you know your stuff).

Expect orange marmalade and warm spice on the nose, a palate packed with vanilla, ginger and dash or orchard fruit. For the finale? Dark chocolate and caramelised citrus. It’s pretty much dessert in a bottle, but slicker than your average.

Perfect for the dad who’s got great taste… and wants everyone to know it.

The understated gem: Benriach 16 Year Old Speyside Single Malt

One for the Speyside fans. The 16 Year Old Benriach is the kind of dram that makes even the most mellow of dads smile from ear to ear. Much like the minimal dad who does everything right without saying a word, this Speyside single malt brings nothing short of fuss-free good vibes and great flavour.

BenRiach 16 Year Old Single Malt Whisky

£78

Crafted with bright orchard fruits up front, mellow oak in the centre and a silky-soft finish that lingers like a well-timed hug, it’s the whisky that’s quiet but nonetheless, still grabs your attention. Fruity, smooth and with just the right amount of complexity to impress without showing off, it’s a top pick for dads who appreciate balance in their glass.

This one says, “I appreciate you”, without getting overly sentimental about it.

The smoke show: Octomore 14.3 Islay Single Malt

Now we’re talking. For the dad who likes his whisky like he likes his BBQ, meet Octomore 14.3. It’s big, bold and unapologetically smoky; kind of like the heavyweight of the bunch, peated to perfection and bottled at a whopping cask-strength of 61.4% (yes, really).

£195

Made entirely from barely grown on Octomore Farm, and aged in a mixture of American whiskey and wine casks, this isn’t your typical dram. It’s a statement. One that says “I know what I’m doing”.

You’ve probably guessed but just to reiterate, this one’s not for the faint hearted.

Handy tips for gifting luxury whisky (like you know what you’re doing)

  • Don’t just grab the one with the fanciest label. Think about what he actually likes. You’ll earn serious brownie points.
  • Limited editions or distillery exclusives? Big win. He already loves you, but this might make you his favourite.
  • Want to go the extra mile? Throw in a set of proper glassware, tasting notes, or pair it with some chocolate or cheese.
  • Presentation matters (even if he pretends it doesn’t). A sleek box or thoughtful packaging adds just the right touch.
  • Want something truly unique? Why not get dad a bottle from Hackstons’ first ever range of unique, bottled whiskies: The Bottling Club.

Wrapping things up: one last cheers
