Some Chardonnays try hard to impress, but Cullen’s Kevin John rarely needs to. Grown in the Wilyabrup subregion of Margaret River and made from old Wente-clone vines on the estate’s biodynamic vineyard, it reflects both the precision and patience that have made Cullen one of Australia’s most respected producers. Fermented with wild yeast in a mix of oak puncheons, amphora and concrete eggs, the wine builds layers of citrus, preserved lemon and stone fruit, with subtle notes of cashew and sea spray adding complexity. The palate is rich yet finely tuned, with a creamy texture balanced by bright mineral acidity that keeps everything lifted and focused. Elegant yet quietly confident, it’s the kind of Chardonnay that speaks clearly of site, craft and the enduring appeal of Margaret River.
