Pichon Comtesse tends to take a more relaxed, elegant approach to Pauillac, and the 1999 leans into that nicely. From a Second Growth estate, it’s built on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but it’s less about power and more about how everything comes together. Cedar, graphite and blackcurrant show up first, followed by tobacco, wild herbs and a gentle savoury note that comes with time. It feels settled and easy in the glass, with a natural balance and finishes with a fresh lift. In magnum, it’s aged that bit more slowly, and now sits in a really good spot, ready to be savoured without overthinking it.
