One sip is all it takes to understand why this Syrah has such a loyal following. Drawn from granite-rich terraces on the Côte-Brune and made entirely from Syrah, it follows the Levet family’s refreshingly traditional approach, with whole clusters in the ferment and around two years ageing in large oak demi-muids. Expect dark plum and blackberry alongside cracked pepper, graphite and a gentle lift of rose petal, with a hint of citrus brightness keeping it taut and fresh. It’s firm and structured in the way great Côte-Rôtie should be, but never heavy, and a couple of hours in a decanter helps it really stretch out. Savoury and full of character, it’s the kind of bottle that makes you start planning when to open the next.
