Giuseppe Rinaldi is one of Barolo’s great traditional estates, and its Barbera d’Alba shows the same commitment to purity and restraint as the more famous Nebbiolo wines. The 2021 vintage gives Barbera’s naturally bright acidity plenty of ripe fruit to work with, creating a wine that feels generous without losing its energy. Raised in large oak rather than heavily toasted small barrels, it keeps the focus on the grape, with black cherry, red plum and blackberry joined by violet, liquorice, gentle spice and a subtle savoury note. There’s depth and warmth from the vintage, but also the freshness that makes Barbera such a natural partner at the table. Vibrant, characterful and quietly serious, it works particularly well with rich pasta dishes, roast meats or mature cheeses.
