Pian delle Vigne’s Brunello di Montalcino shows exactly what careful Sangiovese can achieve in the hills around Montalcino. Made by the Antinori family and aged slowly in large oak casks, it’s a Brunello that perfectly brings together depth with a real sense of elegance. Expect ripe black cherry and plum with a lift of blood orange, followed by touches of violet, tobacco and dark chocolate that add complexity as it opens in the glass. The tannins are silky rather than forceful, while fresh acidity keeps everything lively and well balanced. It’s refined, structured and built to evolve, making this Brunello feel just as rewarding at the dinner table as it does tucked away in the cellar.
